Programme

The Satellite 9 programme will be made up of talks, panel discussions, workshops, games and quizzes. As with other fan-run conventions, we expect most items to be contributed by members of the convention (please put forward your ideas when joining the convention, or by contacting programme@nine.satellitex.org.uk). Several items will feature our Guest of Honour and we aim to bring in a number of Day Guests (local experts, usually from academia) to give presentations on their specialist areas. There will also be a Dealers’ Room and Art Show.

Reflecting our tag-line of Science Fiction, Science Fact, Science Fun, parts of the Satellite 9 programme will emphasise the interface between speculative fiction and real-world science. We’ll also feature a good number of fun items where we pair science with silliness. The programme will be developed over the coming months, so please check back for updates. However, for a taste of what to expect, check out our previous conventions, Satellite 7 and Satellite 8.

For the benefit of those wanting to arrange travel as early as possible, note that we currently plan to start programme between 14:00 and 15:00 on Friday 22nd May 2026 and the Closing Ceremony will be around 18:30 on Sunday 24th May 2026. This will be followed by the traditional Dead Dog Party, presided over by that most famous example thereof, Laika, and will feature our (in)famous Pub Quiz.
